Corpses of Eight Missing Policemen Found in Benue

Eight bodies of missing policemen have been found after last Friday’s deadly assault on security operatives at Agu Centre, a border area between Katsina-Ala and Ukum local government areas of Benue State.

The joint team of Operation Zenda, Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) had earlier run into armed attackers during a security operation. Three men were confirmed dead on the spot, two policemen and one BSCPG officer while eight others went missing.

On Monday, the 22nd of September, 2025, Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Dr. Justine Shaku, told journalists over the phone from Makurdi that the bodies of the missing policemen had been recovered.

“This brings the number of officers killed to 11 (10 policemen and one BSCPG),” Shaku said.

He explained that the State Police Commissioner, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, had already moved into the area to take charge of the situation.

“The atmosphere is still tense and unfriendly, but we are on top of the situation,” he noted.
Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet confirmed the recovery of the eight corpses.

The Commander of the BSCPG, Capt. Ayuma Ajobi (rtd), also told our correspondent that his outfit lost one operative and two motorcycles in the attack.
