The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has raised concerns over what it describes as attempts by the management of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals to sidestep constitutional provisions in pursuit of profit.
In a statement on Tuesday, the labour body alleged that the refinery’s management is seeking to override Nigeria’s constitution to create conditions that favour profit maximisation at the expense of employees.
The TUC stressed that such a move would be unacceptable, warning that workers’ rights are protected by law and cannot be sacrificed “under any guise.”
“Profit-making cannot take precedence over the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The rights of workers to fair treatment, welfare, and protection must remain sacrosanct,” the union stated.

The TUC said it would continue to engage with stakeholders and, where necessary, take lawful steps to ensure that the rights of workers within the refinery and other industries are upheld.
The congress also urged the federal government to ensure strict adherence to labour laws, warning against allowing powerful corporations to place profit above the nation’s constitution and the dignity of Nigerian workers.
