Human rights activist and former Nigerian Senator, Shehu Sani, has strongly condemned the widespread electoral malpractice captured in a viral video from the recent Cameroonian elections.
The footage, which has sparked widespread outrage online, shows individuals distributing food and cash to voters, allegedly in exchange for electoral support.
Reacting to the footage on Tuesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Senator Sani expressed deep concern over what he described as the growing normalization of electoral corruption across the African continent.
“When I watched a video footage of food and money shared to the electorates for the Cameroonian elections, I then realised it’s now becoming a continental pandemic,” he stated.

Sani’s remarks have resonated with many across the region who fear that such practices are undermining democratic institutions and the credibility of electoral processes in Africa. The former lawmaker has been a consistent voice in calling out electoral fraud, human rights abuses, and governance failures both within Nigeria and across the continent.
The video has yet to be officially addressed by Cameroonian authorities, but civic groups and international observers are calling for investigations and reforms to protect the integrity of future elections.
Analysts say Sani’s comments reflect broader concerns about the erosion of democratic values in Africa, where vote-buying, voter suppression, and manipulation of electoral processes remain significant threats to good governance.
