A Customs officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, was found dead on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in a hotel room at Murjani Hotel in the Katsina metropolis, after reportedly lodging with three women the previous night.
The women: Khadija Ali, Aisha Lawal, and Hafsat Yusuf, have been arrested by police for questioning over the mysterious death.
Hotel staff discovered the officer’s body at about 8:30 a.m. and immediately alerted the Katsina State Police Command, which later confirmed the incident.
The cause of death has not yet been officially determined, but police said an autopsy has been ordered.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, confirmed Tukur’s death, describing it as “a painful loss” and assuring that the Service is cooperating fully with police investigators.
Sources within the hotel said Tukur checked in late Wednesday night with the three women.
Guests in adjacent rooms reportedly heard no commotion, and the women were seen leaving the room at different times before dawn.

Police have sealed off the hotel room as part of the ongoing investigation.
Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, told reporters that detectives are exploring all possible angles, including foul play.
“The three women are in custody assisting the investigation. The body of the deceased has been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, for post-mortem examination,” Sadiq said.
The incident has sparked public speculation, with authorities urging calm and patience until official findings are released.
