Presidency to Trump: Stop Judging Nigeria With Outdated Claims

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has pushed back against the recent stance taken by the United States, saying President Donald Trump is relying on information that does not reflect Nigeria’s current realities.

During an interview on TVC News on Monday, the 3rd of November, 2025, Bwala reacted to Trump’s decision to classify Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. He wondered why Washington would make such a move despite acknowledging Nigeria’s progress not long ago.

According to him, “Barely three months ago, the American government commended Nigeria for the arrest of Usman Mohammed, also known as Khalid Al-Barnawi, leader of the Ansaru terrorist group and one of the most wanted terrorists in the world.

“The US Embassy in Nigeria equally praised our government’s remarkable progress in the fight against terrorism.

“How then can the same government that acknowledged our success just months ago now take a contradictory position based on outdated reports and past events?

“You cannot use obsolete information to judge an administration that has demonstrated clear commitment and tangible results in securing our nation,” he said.

Bwala insisted that Nigeria has taken visible steps against terror networks and called for more objective assessment from the United States.
