Court Dismisses Mompha’s No-Case Submission, Orders Continuation of Trial

The Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has dismissed the no-case submission filed by social media personality Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, and his co-defendant in an ongoing fraud case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In her ruling, Justice Mojisola Dada held that the EFCC had successfully established a prima facie case against the defendants, necessitating that they enter their defence. The decision effectively paves the way for the continuation of trial proceedings.

The EFCC, through its official handle on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed the court’s decision on Tuesday, noting that the case has been adjourned to January 27 and 28, 2026, for the continuation of hearing.

Mompha is standing trial over allegations bordering on money laundering and fraudulent activities brought against him by the anti-graft agency. The EFCC maintains that the evidence presented before the court sufficiently links the defendant to the offences alleged.

The development marks a new phase in the high-profile case, which has drawn public attention since it commenced, with the EFCC reiterating its commitment to ensuring justice through diligent prosecution.
