Parents of Nigerian students studying abroad on government scholarships on Monday staged a protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, demanding the payment of long-overdue allowances owed to their children.
The protesters, who blocked the entrance to the ministry, said their children—beneficiaries of various bilateral education agreements and other scholarship schemes—have not received stipends for 16 months, with an additional eight-month shortfall still unsettled.
The parents urged the federal government to address the delays immediately, stressing that the unpaid allowances were affecting the students’ welfare and academic progress.

The Ministry of Finance is yet to issue a response to the protest. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
