The Nasarawa State Police Command has officially debunked widespread social media claims that students were abducted from St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area.
In a voice conversation facilitated by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhel Nansel, and shared with TVC News Digital, the school proprietor, Mr. Peters Ezegwoya, confirmed that no abduction occurred.
He explained that the false alarm began after some students, who were heading to the school field for Physical and Health Education activities, reported seeing individuals carrying hunting rifles. The students, frightened by the sight, rushed back to the school premises, where teachers escorted them safely to their classrooms.
According to Ezegwoya, some students exaggerated the situation, claiming they had seen kidnappers, which sparked panic among fellow students and alarmed parents. Some parents, acting on unverified information, quickly circulated rumors of a mass abduction.
In a follow-up conversation, Ezegwoya clarified that while a few students went home due to fear, no student was abducted or reported missing.
He emphasized:
“It is a rumor. A student raised a false alarm, and the situation was made worse by exaggeration. It is totally false.”
To further clarify the situation and quell rising panic, the Nasarawa State Police Command issued an official statement, confirming that investigations had ruled out any kidnapping attempt.

DSP Nansel stated that officers and military personnel were immediately deployed to the school following the reports.
On arrival, it was confirmed that the children had mistaken local hunters, who were carrying Dane guns, for armed kidnappers. The area was thoroughly searched, and normalcy was restored.
The statement warned the public against spreading unverified information, urging journalists and media platforms to confirm reports before publication to avoid fueling fear and misinformation.
Security operatives continue to monitor the area to ensure the safety of students and residents.
