Ogun on Alert: Governor Abiodun Holds Security Summit to Shield State from Rising Threats

Governor Dapo Abiodun on Monday convened a high-level meeting with security chiefs in Ogun State to assess the current security situation and bolster preparedness measures, officials said.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the governor said the meeting aimed to ensure that Ogun State, considered one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, maintains its standing. “The best time to prepare for war is during a time of peace,” Abiodun wrote, adding that proactive measures are key to sustaining peace and stability.

The governor stressed that regular engagements with security officials are crucial to prevent threats from escalating, especially as insecurity intensifies across other parts of the country. He noted that such discussions reaffirm the state government’s commitment to keeping Ogun safe for all residents.

The meeting comes amid a spate of violent attacks and abductions across Nigeria. Last Friday, bandits abducted 215 students and 12 teachers from St Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, while 50 students had reportedly escaped by Sunday. Just days earlier, 26 schoolgirls were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

Governor Abiodun reiterated the importance of proactive security planning, noting that such measures are vital for sustaining Ogun State’s reputation as a safe and peaceful environment.
