He Failed in PDP, Can’t Fix Nigeria — Oshiomhole Mocks Atiku’s Defection

Adams Oshiomhole has turned up the heat on Atiku Abubakar’s latest political move, telling Nigerians that the former vice-president’s defection to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, does not change what he sees as Atiku’s fundamental weakness: an inability to provide leadership.

Atiku had proudly announced his new political home with an image of himself holding the ADC membership card, writing, “It’s official.”

But Oshiomhole, speaking on November 24 during Channels Television’s Politics Today, said the real issue was not the card in Atiku’s hand but his track record.

He argued that Atiku’s years in the Peoples Democratic Party, a party that once made him vice-president, had produced no evidence that he could stabilise or reform an organisation, let alone a country.

“If Atiku as a former vice-president under PDP could not fix PDP, he could not reconstruct it, and he could not provide leadership and use his influence which he had built, how can you lay claim to fix Nigeria?” Oshiomhole asked.

The senator reminded viewers that Atiku also once belonged to the APC and only walked away because he failed to clinch the presidential ticket.

“He was once a member of the APC. He left because he lost the party’s presidential ticket,” he said.

“He went back to the PDP. He’s so much in love with the PDP, at least for the purpose of contesting election.

“He could not build PDP. So, if Atiku can’t build the PDP that made him vice-president, he can’t fix Nigeria.”

Oshiomhole’s comments add fresh fire to the political drama surrounding Atiku’s switch to the ADC, coming just months after he resigned from the PDP amid internal crises.
