PHOTOS: Troops Intercept Drug Shipment, Seize 108kg of Cannabis in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a major drug courier and recovered a large consignment of Cannabis Sativa in Kogi State, marking another significant step in ongoing efforts to curb the flow of illicit substances that fuel banditry and violent crimes across the region.

The arrest occurred on 24 November 2025 during a routine stop-and-search operation at the Agbede Response Area.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, and shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

In a separate operation, Soldiers flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU, driven by one Mr. Johnson Ayo, who was travelling from Ekiti State to Obajana.

According to the military, a police-branded hat and belt displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard immediately raised suspicion.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed inside.

Preliminary investigations indicate that drug consignments of such scale often provide financial support for criminal networks and exacerbate insecurity by enabling bandit groups operating within and around Kogi State.

The suspect and the seized exhibits have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation and prosecution.

Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, stated that the operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment to denying criminals freedom of action, disrupting drug trafficking routes, and enhancing public safety.

The Army reaffirmed its resolve to work with other security agencies to dismantle the drug supply chains that contribute to banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
