Abia Governor Otti Meets Nnamdi Kanu Behind Bars

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, made a notable visit to the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday, the 30th of November, 2025, to meet with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The development was confirmed by two close associates of the IPOB leader: Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and his sibling, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, who both shared details of the visit on their respective Facebook pages.

Ejimakor took to social media to express his gratitude to the governor, saying he was thankful to the governor “for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, MAZI NNAMDI KANU. You’re a man of your words and gutsy to boot.” The special counsel concluded his post with a prayer for the IPOB leader’s release, adding, “May God bless you. And may your august visit to Sokoto today be the first step to ending this undeserved ordeal, sooner than later.”

Separately, Emmanuel Kanu highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “Governor Alex Otti and the people of Sokoto have made a unified statement by visiting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

The visit comes after Governor Otti had previously confirmed plans to secure the release of the IPOB leader following his sentencing to life imprisonment. At that time, Otti stated he had already activated a strategy to secure Kanu’s final freedom, a plan which he claimed he had initiated earlier during Kanu’s trial.
