The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has defended the disciplinary measures taken against several members, saying the actions were necessary to safeguard the party’s stability and credibility.
BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa offered the clarification during the board’s meeting in Abuja on Sunday, December 7.
He said those sanctioned had engaged in activities that undermined the cohesion of the PDP.
According to him, “We gather not merely as leaders, but as custodians of the party’s moral compass, entrusted with guiding the PDP through this difficult period with clarity and purpose.”
Ohuabunwa added that the party acted strictly in line with its constitution.
“Recent actions taken within the party reflect our union’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and defend the integrity of our constitution,” he said.

He explained that the decisions were aimed at preserving the PDP from internal sabotage.
“Individuals whose conduct has threatened the unity, stability, and credibility of our party have been sanctioned in line with established resolutions,” he stated.
“These measures were not taken lightly. They became necessary to protect the institution and our party from internal subversion and to restore confidence among us nationwide,” Ohuabunwa added.
The defence comes after the PDP leadership under acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman announced the expulsion of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former National Chairman Umar Damagum, Kabiru Turaki, Bode George, Taofeek Arapaja, and others.
In the earlier announcement, the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, cautioned the public against associating with those behind the national convention recently held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
