Ogun Police Nab ‘Fibroid Cure’ Fraudster Selling Deadly Drugs

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Williams Adetunji for allegedly selling unapproved and hazardous products claimed to treat fibroids.

The arrest followed a petition filed by the law firm Roberts Rasaaq Agboke and Associates on behalf of a young woman who suffered serious health complications after using the substances. The products, identified as Enervate Capsules and Tumorex, reportedly contained caustic soda and other corrosive chemicals.

Speaking in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the law firm’s representative, Hassan Yakubu, said their client experienced severe internal injuries, chemical burns, scarring, obstruction of the vaginal canal, prolonged abnormal bleeding, reproductive complications, and long-term physiological damage. The woman now requires reconstructive surgery estimated at N1.3 million, in addition to treatment for her unresolved fibroid condition.

Yakubu added that other women have suffered similar complications and were allegedly removed from online support groups when they tried to raise concerns. He noted that Adetunji was marketing and producing the products without any medical qualifications, licenses, or regulatory approval.

Confirming the arrest, Ogun State Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the suspect is in custody at the Anti-Cultism Unit, and investigations are ongoing. “Other complaints are coming in identifying him as the person who sold the drug, so the investigation is ongoing. Once completed, he will be charged in court,” he stated.

The incident comes as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) continues to push for strict penalties against drug peddlers. In February, the agency proposed the death penalty for individuals whose unapproved drugs result in fatalities, particularly among children.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and only use medically approved and registered products to avoid serious health risks.
