Kano Sets Up Task Force to Boost Security at Motor Parks

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the immediate establishment of a Special Task Force to address security threats at motor parks and other strategic public spaces across the state.

The decision was announced in a statement released on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

According to the statement, the move underscores the administration’s commitment to preventing criminal infiltration and enhancing security, particularly at key entry and exit points within the Kano metropolitan area.

Bature said motor parks had been identified as high-risk locations due to increased human movement and recent security developments, including the arrest of suspected miscreants at the Kofar Ruwa Motor Park.

The task force, he said, will conduct intensive surveillance, intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations at motor parks and other vulnerable locations. Its operations will also extend to ancillary areas such as filling stations and public spaces where transient populations often congregate.

Governor Yusuf described the initiative as a proactive measure aimed at neutralising security threats before they escalate, strengthening inter-agency coordination and restoring public confidence.

He reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality and pledged continued support for security agencies in the protection of lives and property.

The development comes amid a recent spike in insecurity in Kano State, including bandit attacks in rural communities such as Tsanyawa and Shanono local government areas, where residents have reported abductions and assaults.

As part of broader security measures, Yusuf had earlier led a delegation of security chiefs on December 2 to assess Joint Task Force operational bases in affected areas, promising improved logistics, infrastructure and community empowerment initiatives.

The Kano State Police Command has also introduced additional security measures, including a ban on passenger conveyance by motorcycles in nine metropolitan local government areas, as well as restrictions on commercial tricycle operations between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., effective from December 1.
