Odinkalu Slams Malami’s EFCC Complaint: “They’re Following What He Taught Them”

The former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has publicly criticized Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), over Malami’s recent assertion that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is acting politically in its proceedings against him.

In a sharp post on the social media platform X on Sunday, the 14th of December, 2025, Odinkalu characterized Malami’s time in office as marked by partisan interests, referring to him as a “grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General.”

Odinkalu suggested that if Malami now finds the EFCC to be politicized, the former AGF should reflect on his own legacy: “Someone should tell Abubakar Malami to please sit this out. He was a grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General,” Odinkalu wrote. “If he’s now complaining that EFCC is political, they should tell him that they’re following what he taught them. They have no need to deny it.”

Odinkalu’s pointed remarks followed Malami’s claims that the EFCC revoked his bail merely because he attended a political rally in Kebbi State.

However, the EFCC has countered Malami’s accusations, stating that he had failed to meet the five crucial conditions attached to his provisional bail, describing his claims as “untenable.”

The commission further emphasized its commitment to operating apolitically and urged Malami to concentrate on fulfilling his bail requirements rather than advancing what it termed “bogus claims.”

Malami is currently under investigation for serious allegations, including money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing, even as he continues to insist that he has not defaulted on any of his bail conditions.
