Aisha Buhari has revealed that her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, began locking his bedroom door after rumours circulated within the Presidential Villa claiming she planned to kill him.
She made the disclosure on December 15, 2025, during the launch of From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, a biography of the late president.
According to Mrs. Buhari, aides and gossip at Aso Rock spread the unfounded claim, leading Buhari to briefly believe the allegation.
The mistrust lasted about a week and prompted him to begin locking his room, altering daily routines and disrupting the strict meal and supplement schedule she had long supervised for his health.
The former first lady explained that this disruption contributed to a significant health crisis in 2017, during which Buhari spent a combined 154 days on medical leave in the United Kingdom.

She emphasised that the episode was not the result of poisoning or a mysterious illness, but a breakdown of his carefully managed nutrition.

Since his passing, Mrs. Buhari has been more forthcoming about the personal and family challenges linked to his years in office.
