First Lady Tinubu Welcomes New Year with Mothers, Promotes Prosperity

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, marked the beginning of 2026 with a symbolic New Year visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, where she met new mothers and celebrated the birth of the nation’s first baby of the year.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady described 2026 as a year of “abundant peace” and “abundant prosperity” for Nigeria.

During the visit, Senator Tinubu, accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulieman-Ibrahim; and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud, officially welcomed the “First Baby of the Year.”

The baby, a girl, was born at exactly midnight to a 26-year-old first-time mother, Adakole Patience.

The First Lady also celebrated another notable birth at the facility — triplets born to Blessing Oragwu on December 29, 2025.

The two boys and a girl came after 13 years of marriage, a development Senator Tinubu described as remarkable. She presented the family with gifts in recognition of the joyful milestone.

Speaking on the significance of the moment, Senator Tinubu expressed gratitude for Nigerians who made it into the new year, noting that the birth of a baby girl at the start of 2026 was a positive sign for the nation.

Drawing from cultural symbolism, she said the new year carried strong hope for national progress, stressing that peace and prosperity would define the months ahead.
