The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two suspects for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs and Indian hemp to inmates at the Nomansland Court Complex in Kano.
The suspects, Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Breget) area of Kano State, were apprehended by NCoS officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano, while trying to throw the substances to inmates at the court premises, the commandās Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nassarawa, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
Kofar-Nassarawa warned the public against intermingling with inmates, especially during transportation to and from court, describing it as a serious security breach punishable by law. He added that the NCoS is committed to rehabilitating and reforming inmates and will not tolerate actions that undermine this mandate.

The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, has directed the Legal Unit and Intelligence Unit to hand over the suspects and seized substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining maximum security and zero tolerance for drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies to sustain law and order.
