The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Emeka Christian, a Nigerian national who was allegedly beaten to death in Pune, India.
In a statement released on Saturday, January 17, 2026, the commission described the incident as “tragic and unnecessary” and urged Nigerians living abroad to resolve conflicts peacefully and comply with local laws.
NiDCOM extended condolences to the family of the deceased and called on Indian authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and that justice is delivered.

The commission stressed that violent actions among Nigerians overseas tarnish the country’s image and should never occur.
Local reports indicate that the incident took place in the early hours of Monday, January 12, 2026, in the Pisoli‑Phursungi area of Pune.
Christian, 40, a legally residing garment trader, was allegedly assaulted by Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, 34 after a disagreement linked to a romantic relationship escalated during a late-night gathering.
He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police in Pune have registered a murder case, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
