Lagos Taskforce Nabs Six Suspected Robbers Targeting Stranded Motorists

The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested six suspected hoodlums accused of preying on motorists whose vehicles broke down along major roads in the state.

The suspects were apprehended on Saturday morning during a coordinated enforcement operation carried out across Maryland and the entire Ikorodu Road corridor.

The exercise was part of ongoing efforts by the state government to clamp down on criminal activities threatening the safety of road users.

Confirming the arrests in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said the operation began at about 9:30 a.m. and specifically targeted individuals who had turned roadside robbery into a regular source of income.

According to the commissioner, the suspects allegedly specialised in attacking stranded motorists, violently dispossessing drivers of their belongings when their vehicles developed faults.

Wahab noted that the six suspects were taken into custody and transferred to the appropriate office for further investigation and prosecution.

He assured residents that the state would not relent in its efforts to rid Lagos roads of criminal elements, adding that all those arrested would be arraigned in court without delay.

The latest arrests come amid heightened public concern over the activities of street urchins and hoodlums who exploit vulnerable motorists across several parts of Lagos.

Meanwhile, authorities reiterated their commitment to sustained enforcement operations to ensure the safety of commuters and motorists throughout the state.
