Tinubu Honours Business Tycoon Gilbert Chagoury With GCON

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Lebanese‑Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Gilbert Chagoury with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) in recognition of his significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

The national award was formalised through an official Instrument of National Honour signed in Abuja on Thursday, January 8, 2026, and publicly announced on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Chagoury, who co-founded the Chagoury Group in Lagos in 1971, has grown the company into a diversified conglomerate spanning construction, real estate, hospitality, and infrastructure.

He is widely known for spearheading major projects such as Banana Island and Eko Atlantic City.

Billionaire investor Femi Otedola lauded the conferment, calling it a well‑deserved recognition of Chagoury’s achievements.

He described Chagoury as a visionary leader whose commitment to business excellence and urban development has created employment, shaped Nigeria’s skyline, and inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs.

Chagoury’s decades-long impact on the private sector and landmark developments make him a prominent recipient of the award.
