Alex Iwobi has been left out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Team of the Tournament, despite Nigeria’s impressive campaign at the competition.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Technical Study Group unveiled the official Team of the Tournament, with three Super Eagles players earning deserved recognition. Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey were all named following their standout performances.

Osimhen finished the tournament with four goals and two assists, playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s attacking threat. Lookman was equally influential, recording three goals and five assists, while defender Calvin Bassey impressed at the back with his consistency and defensive solidity throughout the competition.
Iwobi’s omission has sparked reactions among fans, with many believing the midfielder played a key role in Nigeria’s midfield during the tournament. However, CAF’s technical panel opted for other players in their final selection.
Nigeria’s strong presence in the Team of the Tournament underlines the Super Eagles’ impact at AFCON and highlights the individual brilliance of Osimhen, Lookman and Bassey on the continental stage.
