Court Admits DSS Evidence Of Sowore Calling President Tinubu ‘Criminal’

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday admitted evidence from the Department of State Services (DSS) showing African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore referring to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” in August 2025.

The development came after Sowore sought to prevent the DSS from tendering a flash drive containing video clips of his statements, a move which the court overruled.

In addition, the court admitted screenshots of Sowore’s posts on social media platforms, including X and Meta (formerly Facebook), along with the reactionary comments they provoked.

During proceedings before Justice Mohammed Umar, DSS lawyer Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, led PW-1, Cyril Nosike—an operative of the service—in presenting the evidence.

The video recordings and social media posts, along with a certificate of compliance, were formally marked as exhibits. Counsel for Sowore, Marshal Abubakar, reserved his objection until the stage of final written addresses.

Following the evidence-in-chief of PW-1, Sowore’s defense requested an adjournment to review the witness statement and other documents presented by the prosecution.

Justice Umar adjourned the matter until January 27 for the cross-examination of the prosecution witness and continuation of the hearing.

Sowore faces the amended charge under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, filed on December 5, 2025, in which he is named as the sole defendant.

The case continues to draw attention due to its political implications and the involvement of high-profile figures.
