Presidency has reversed the earlier announcement appointing former Kebbi State Governor, Usman Dakingari, as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Turkey.
The clarification was issued on Friday, the 23rd of January, 2026, by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who stated that no ambassadorial appointment has been made for Turkey.
According to the statement, the correction followed shortly after the Presidency released a list of ambassadorial postings.
It was recalled that President Tinubu had recently approved the deployment of four ambassador-designates from the 68 nominees confirmed by the Senate in December.
The statement reaffirmed the posting of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as ambassador-designate to France, while Colonel Lateef Are was confirmed as ambassador-designate to the United States.

In addition, Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, a former envoy to South Korea, was approved as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
Earlier reports had listed Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi State, as ambassador-designate to Turkey, a country President Tinubu is expected to visit on a state visit next week.
However, the Presidency later dropped Dakingari’s name from the final list without providing any explanation for the decision.
“Tinubu has written a memo to the ministry of foreign affairs to notify the governments of the three countries about the ambassadors-designate, in accordance with diplomatic procedures,” the statement said.
