Troops Neutralise Six Terrorists, Rescue Kidnapped Girl in Zamfara Offensive

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma, have recorded significant operational gains during a coordinated offensive against terrorist elements in Zamfara State, neutralising six insurgents and rescuing a kidnapped underage girl.

The operation, carried out in the Sububu Forest axis of Maradun Local Government Area, also led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, the destruction of several terrorist camps, and the dismantling of logistics structures used by the criminal groups.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the spokesperson for Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain David Adewusi, said the mission was designed to flush out terrorist enclaves and restore peace to communities affected by persistent attacks and kidnappings.

According to the statement, troops first engaged terrorists at Indulumu village, where a fierce gun battle resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists. One AK-47 rifle was recovered during the encounter.

“The offensive commenced with a targeted engagement at Indulumu village where gallant troops confronted and neutralised two terrorists,” Adewusi said. “The recovery of an AK-47 rifle further disrupted their operational capability.”

The Strike Force subsequently advanced to Ruduno village, where four additional terrorists were neutralised following another intense firefight. Troops recovered a second AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and destroyed two motorcycles believed to have been used for terrorist mobility and logistics.

Beyond the combat engagements, the operation recorded a major humanitarian breakthrough with the rescue of a kidnapped underage girl, identified as Halira Ibrahim, during further exploitation of the forest.

Adewusi described the rescue as a powerful reminder of the military’s commitment to civilian protection. “The successful rescue of the victim has brought an end to her ordeal and offers a beacon of hope to the affected community,” he said.

Troops also destroyed multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga, and Kukatara, significantly degrading the groups’ ability to sustain operations and denying them safe havens.

The army said the offensive underscores its resolve to combat terrorism, curb kidnapping, and restore lasting security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
