Kaduna Governor Pays N1bn To Bulldoze Homes For Makarfi, Zaria Roads

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Sunday commissioned key road infrastructure projects in Makarfi and Zaria Local Government Areas, marking a major step in his administration’s efforts to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth across the state.

At separate ceremonies in the two local councils, Governor Sani unveiled the Durum–Kuruntumawa Asphalt Road in Makarfi, a community that had reportedly gone more than a decade without a quality asphalt road. In Zaria, he commissioned the Magajiya–Kasuwan Amaru and Audi–Kako Asphalt roads, which are expected to ease urban congestion and enhance commercial activities.

Speaking at the events, Sani disclosed that over N1 billion had been paid in compensation to property owners affected by demolitions carried out to facilitate the construction of the Magajiya–Kasuwan Amaru Road.

The governor said the newly commissioned roads are part of a wider infrastructure programme covering 140 roads with a total length of 1,335 kilometres across Kaduna State.

“For far too long, these communities lived with poor connectivity, constrained mobility, and limited access to markets, schools, healthcare, and economic opportunity. This commissioning is therefore more than a ceremonial event; it is a clear statement of purpose and a reaffirmation of our resolve to ensure that development reaches every corner of Kaduna State,” he said.

Sani described the Durum–Kuruntumawa Road as a critical lifeline for Makarfi, noting that its completion has transformed movement, reduced travel time and transportation costs, enhanced safety, and strengthened access to markets and public services. He added that the road directly supports agricultural productivity, rural livelihoods, and the dignity of communities long neglected in terms of infrastructure.

In Zaria, the Magajiya–Kasuwan Amaru Road is expected to improve urban mobility and commercial exchange by linking densely populated neighbourhoods with major markets, while the Audi–Kako Road connects residential areas to schools, healthcare facilities, and business hubs.

Governor Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred development, emphasizing that the projects were executed with consideration for affected communities. “We further expressed gratitude to the affected community for choosing development over personal interests, as over N1 billion was paid in compensation following the demolition of properties to enable the successful completion of this road. This collective sacrifice reinforces Zaria’s historic role as a centre of trade, learning, and enterprise,” he said.
