The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of a new head coach for Enyimba International Football Club, Aba.
The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who said the new head coach is Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel.
Enyimba International Football Club is Nigeria’s most decorated football club and one of Abia State’s most prominent sporting brands on the African continent. The club is a two-time CAF Champions League winner and a multiple-time domestic league champion.
However, the club has in recent times experienced a decline from its traditional standards of excellence.
According to the statement, the Otti administration is determined to restore Enyimba’s status as a dominant force in Nigerian and African football, while repositioning the club for professionalism, sustainability and strong corporate governance.
The statement noted that the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is part of strategic efforts to reinvigorate the club’s technical direction, strengthen its competitive edge and lay a solid foundation for long-term success.

Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel was described as a highly experienced football tactician with CAF A, B and C coaching licences, who has served as technical adviser and head coach with reputable clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, recording impressive results.
His career achievements include the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025.
The statement added that Governor Otti expressed confidence that the coach’s wealth of experience, technical competence and professional discipline would contribute significantly to rebuilding Enyimba International Football Club and returning it to its rightful position as a powerhouse in Nigerian and African football.
