Clean Energy Push: Firm Urges Nigeria To Act Fast

The Chief Commercial Officer of JMG Limited, Mr. Rabi Jammal, has said Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy sources has become an economic necessity amid rising energy costs and growing global sustainability demands.

Jammal spoke on Monday at the company’s head office in Victoria Island, Lagos, while addressing journalists as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of Clean Energy. He said clean energy solutions, particularly solar power, are now critical to reducing operating costs, improving competitiveness, and supporting national development.

According to him, Nigeria must accelerate its shift to renewable energy in line with global trends to remain economically viable. He noted that clean energy plays technical, commercial, and financial roles by lowering power costs, empowering communities, and enhancing productivity.

Jammal said the International Day of Clean Energy serves as a reminder of the importance of renewable energy and JMG’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, which targets net-zero emissions by 2060. He added that the company has moved beyond advocacy by delivering clean energy projects that have reduced carbon emissions, saved millions in diesel costs, and improved power reliability.

He disclosed that JMG would continue to invest in solar solutions, technology, and skilled manpower to expand access to sustainable power across the country.

Also speaking, the Product Manager, Hybrid Power Systems at JMG, Mr. Raymond Nwose, addressed concerns about solar power performance during the rainy season. He explained that rainfall does not stop solar generation but only reduces output, advising users to manage consumption during such periods.

Nwose said JMG systems are designed with multiple power priorities to ensure uninterrupted supply, with solar power as the primary source and the Power Holding Company of Nigeria or generators serving as backup. He added that the company’s solutions cater to homes, institutions, healthcare facilities, hospitality businesses, and industries.

He further explained that JMG operates three power delivery models: outright purchase, lease-to-own with payment spread over up to 84 months, and Power as a Service, where customers pay per kilowatt hour based on consumption. He noted that minimum capacity requirements apply to the lease-to-own and Power as a Service options.

On safety, Nwose warned against poorly designed solar installations, stressing the importance of proper engineering analysis, adequate ventilation, and cooling to prevent fire hazards.

The Head of Marketing at JMG, Mrs. Oluwatomi Faniran, urged businesses to adopt clean energy solutions, describing clean energy as the backbone of modern enterprises due to its reliability, cost efficiency, and environmental benefits.

The International Day of Clean Energy is observed annually on January 26 and was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2023 to promote a just and inclusive transition to renewable energy worldwide.
