Residents of the South-East have been called upon to disregard the sit-at-home order announced by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for Monday.
The directive came from the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, which described the sit-at-home action as unproductive and harmful.
It would be recalled that amid the lingering dispute involving traders at the Onitsha Main Market and the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, declared a sit-at-home across the South-East scheduled for Monday, the 2nd of February.
In response, Ohanaeze youths, in a statement issued on Sunday, the 1st of February, 2026, by their National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, urged people across the region to continue with their legitimate daily activities without fear.
Okwu dismissed the sit-at-home call as self-serving, stressing that Ndigbo would no longer allow themselves to be dragged into actions that yield no benefit to the region.
He recalled that IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had on several occasions cautioned against sit-at-home actions in the South-East.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu spoke clearly that he was against it; he described it as economic sabotage against the South-East.

“Why then will anyone come again and say he is declaring sit-at-home. The implication is that it is self-serving an ego trip by those who do not mean well for Ndigbo.
“Nobody should obey such a reckless directive which has also been disowned by the IPOB Directorate of State, DOS. People should stop hiding under Biafra agitation to destroy Igbo land. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is never in support of anything that is bringing harm to our people.
“We then urge Onitsha Main Market traders, and indeed every other market, private and public institutions in the region, to ensure that they open for normal businesses and activities tomorrow, Monday, the 2nd of February.
