Ogun Boosts Crime Surveillance As Amotekun Launches CCTV Command Centre

The Ogun State Government has stepped up its security architecture with the unveiling of a CCTV control room by the Ogun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, aimed at strengthening crime prevention and improving rapid response across the state.

The facility was commissioned on Wednesday at the Amotekun headquarters in Abeokuta, with top government officials and security stakeholders in attendance, including the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), and Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo.

Speaking at the event, Talabi reaffirmed the state’s commitment to empowering security agencies through technology-driven solutions, stressing that intelligence and innovation remain critical to maintaining law and order.

He praised the Amotekun leadership for embracing professionalism and forward-thinking strategies, describing the CCTV project as a major milestone in Ogun’s evolving security framework.

“An initiative like this gives the government confidence that Amotekun is strategically positioned to deliver on its mandate,” Talabi said. “With over 2,000 operatives across a vast state, technology becomes essential.

This control room is a solid foundation we can build upon to significantly improve security.”

The SSG revealed that the CCTV system is currently operational in three locations but noted that plans are underway to expand coverage statewide as part of a broader security upgrade.

Talabi also emphasised inter-agency collaboration, stating that effective security cannot be handled by a single organisation.

According to him, regular coordination among law enforcement bodies ensures swift reinforcement when situations exceed local capacity.

“Security is collective. When the need arises, other agencies — including the military — will step in. That synergy is our strength,” he added.

On his part, Amotekun Corps Commander, Brig Gen Adedigba (retd.), said the CCTV control room would enable proactive policing, faster response times, and improved operational efficiency.

He explained that integrating technology into security operations transforms law enforcement from reactive to predictive.

“With this system, incidents can be monitored in real time. Commands are relayed instantly to officers on the ground, cutting response delays and potentially saving lives,” Adedigba said.

He illustrated that officers deployed miles away can now be guided directly from the command centre as situations unfold, reducing communication gaps and enhancing coordinated action.

The launch marks a significant step in Ogun State’s efforts to modernise its security infrastructure and reassure residents of a safer environment.
