The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed Saturday, February 20, 2027, as the date for Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections, as part of a comprehensive timetable released for the 2027 General Elections.
Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will follow two weeks later on Saturday, March 6, 2027, according to the schedule released by the electoral body.
The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, on Friday, February 13.
It comes amid growing concerns over the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
INEC had on February 4 indicated that it had completed work on the election timetable and schedule of activities despite the delay.

On campaigns, the commission stipulated that political parties and candidates seeking presidential and National Assembly seats can begin campaigning from November 18, 2026, with campaigns running until February 19, 2027, a day before the election.
Governorship and state assembly candidates will have a slightly later start, with campaigns commencing on December 15, 2026, and closing on March 5, 2027, exactly 24 hours before polling day.
To ensure that as many Nigerians as possible participate in the elections, INEC announced that Continuous Voter Registration will begin in April 2026 and close in January 2027, providing a generous window for eligible voters to register or update their details.
Political parties have been given a three-month window between July 1 and September 30, 2026, to conduct their primaries and select candidates for all elective positions.
Following the primaries, parties must submit their candidate lists to INEC between October 1 and October 31, 2026, with the final list of candidates to be published on November 15, 2026, giving voters sufficient time to familiarise themselves with their options before campaigns begin.
