EFCC Secures Forfeiture Order Against Mining Trucks In Kwara

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured fresh court orders targeting trucks allegedly linked to illegal mining operations across Kwara and Oyo states.

On Tuesday, the 17th of February, 2026, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Ilorin granted the commission an interim attachment order covering nine trucks loaded with various solid minerals. The court also approved the final forfeiture of the contents of another truck as part of ongoing enforcement actions.

The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by the EFCC after a sting operation conducted by its operatives on the 1st of February, 2026. The operation led to the interception of multiple trucks and the arrest of several individuals suspected to be involved in unlawful mining and transportation of mineral resources.

According to the commission’s findings, the minerals were allegedly extracted and moved without the required legal authorisation. Acting on this, the EFCC approached the court seeking interim attachment of the vehicles under Sections 6(d), 7(2), and 34(1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, alongside Section 329 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Counsel to the commission, Cosmas Ugwu, urged the court to prohibit any disposal, sale, lease, mortgage or interference with the trucks and their cargo pending the conclusion of investigations.

The application was backed by a ten-paragraph affidavit sworn to by EFCC investigator, Ali Aji Muhammed, who stated that the trucks were intercepted while transporting solid minerals allegedly obtained from unlicensed mining activities.

In her decision, Justice Awogboro granted the interim forfeiture of the nine trucks and their contents.

Among the vehicles listed are a Dongfeng truck with registration number T23-938-LA, a DAF truck marked DKU 566 XA, a Shacman truck bearing registration number AAA 95 YN, and a Howo truck with registration number TRE 419 YJ.

Separately, the court ordered the final forfeiture of solid minerals found in a truck with registration number LRN 122 XXX after the property was declared unclaimed and subsequently taken over by the commission.
