Seventeen individuals have been arraigned in Lagos State for urinating and defecating in public places.
The state Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the offenders appeared before the Magistrate Court at Bolade in Oshodi, where they were found guilty. Each was sentenced to pay a fine of N40,000 or serve one month in prison.
Wahab reminded residents that open urination and defecation are environmental offences that pose serious public health risks.

He urged the public to use available sanitation facilities and comply with environmental regulations, stressing that cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
The Lagos State Government said it will continue to enforce sanitation laws to protect public health, preserve human dignity, and maintain order in communities.
