The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire incident at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, assuring the public that emergency teams swiftly moved into action.
The development was disclosed on Monday, the 23rd of February, 2026, through the agency’s official X handle, where it stated that its firefighters were already on ground battling the blaze and working to bring the situation under control.
According to the authority, there have been no casualties recorded since the outbreak.
Earlier in the day, thick smoke was seen billowing from sections of the terminal, causing tension and commotion within the airport premises. Passengers and staff were promptly evacuated in an orderly manner as emergency responders intensified efforts to contain the fire.
FAAN also revealed that it activated mutual aid support to boost response operations. Reinforcements were requested from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, alongside other emergency bodies.

“We wish to reassure the public that no loss of life has been recorded at this time, and all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property,” the authority said.
“Further verified updates will be communicated as the situation develops,” FAAN added.
The agency maintained that it would continue to provide updates as the response operation progresses.
