Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, has raised concerns over a rising wave of child trafficking and insecurity in the state, revealing that 48 children, aged between two and five, have reportedly been taken to unknown destinations.
Speaking on Friday during the distribution of Ramadan palliatives, Yahaya linked recent security challenges to the relaxation of the state’s motorcycle ban, citing a recent abduction at Orji Estate where a boy was fortunately rescued.
He called for urgent and decisive measures to address emerging threats and restore peace in the state.
“From the available records, 48 Gombe State children between the ages of two and five have been taken out of the state to other parts of the world.
Their parents are here within the state; for the children, we don’t know if they will be found or not,” the governor said.
Yahaya announced that 70,000 residents would benefit from this year’s Ramadan palliative food distribution programme, part of his administration’s sustained effort since 2019 to support vulnerable citizens during the holy month.
The initiative targets physically challenged individuals, religious organisations, orphanages, party support groups, and other vulnerable members of society.

He described Ramadan as a season of mercy, compassion, and shared responsibility, urging citizens, philanthropists, corporate organisations, and religious bodies to complement government efforts in supporting the needy.
A Palliative Distribution Committee has been established to ensure transparency and fairness in the implementation of the programme.
The governor also called on residents to pray for the nation and for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he implements ongoing reforms, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to policies aimed at reducing hardship, promoting inclusion, and restoring hope across communities in Gombe State.
Reacting to the programme, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government Areas, Sani Haruna, commended the governor for prioritising vulnerable citizens, assuring that the items would reach those most in need.
