China has called for an immediate ceasefire and renewed diplomatic engagement as the Middle East conflict escalates into its third day.
At a press briefing on Monday, March 2, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stressed the urgency of halting military operations and preventing the conflict from spreading.
She said, “The most urgent task is an immediate cessation of military operations and preventing a spread and spillover of conflict.”
Mao emphasised China’s support for a peaceful resolution through dialogue, stating that the country backs “a resolution through dialogue and negotiation.”

She confirmed that a Chinese citizen was killed in Tehran during recent strikes in the Iranian capital, which also reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Mao added, “The foreign ministry has instructed the Chinese embassy in Iran to provide assistance to the individual involved and the family,” without providing further details.
The spokesperson also noted that China was not given prior notice of the US-led military action. Beijing, together with Moscow, has urged the United Nations Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to address the situation.
In recent days, China had advised its citizens against travelling to Iran due to security concerns. As of Monday, more than 3,000 Chinese nationals had reportedly departed the country.
