The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert to its citizens over a potential terrorist threat targeting American facilities and schools linked to the United States in Nigeria.
The warning, released on Monday, the 9th of March, 2026, raised concerns about possible attacks around American diplomatic locations and educational centres connected to the US, with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja mentioned as a key area of concern.
In the advisory posted on its official website, the embassy called on American nationals living in or visiting Nigeria to remain alert and take extra safety steps when moving around locations connected to the US government.
Citizens were advised to stay watchful, particularly when going to diplomatic missions or institutions affiliated with the United States.

The notice reads, “The US Embassy in Abuja informs US citizens of a possible terrorist threat against US facilities and US-affiliated schools in Nigeria.
“The Embassy recommends that US citizens take additional precautions when travelling to the US Embassy, the US Consulate General in Lagos, and US-affiliated schools, to include varying times and routes”.
The embassy stressed the need for heightened awareness and careful movement when approaching American diplomatic buildings and schools associated with the United States across the country.
