A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to the South-South Mining Marshals has been shot dead following an attack by a group of tipper drivers in Chokocho community, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to a post by a security analyst, Zagagola Magama on Tuesday, the incident occurred on Monday, March 9, 2026 while members of the NSCDC team were on routine patrol in the Chokocho-Etche area.
It was gathered that the patrol team came under attack from a group of suspected tipper drivers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, an officer identified as Assistant Superintendent Corps II (ASC II) Kalu Samuel Ali sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Ali was immediately rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.
However, medical personnel later confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries.
In a reprisal response, security personnel returned fire, injuring one of the suspected attackers.

The injured tipper driver is currently receiving treatment at another medical facility.
Authorities said additional security personnel, including officers of the police, have been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.
The post added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are also underway.
