Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment To Democracy, Rule Of Law

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his dedication to democracy, national unity and the supremacy of law, describing himself as a “die-hard democrat” determined to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic order.

He shared this on Wednesday, the 11th of March, 2026, at the State House in Abuja while receiving leaders of the All Progressives Congress and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council.

Tinubu said the country’s democratic experience over the last 26 years has endured because political players across different parties have continued to support it through sacrifice and commitment.

“I am glad we are all democrats and we all subscribe to this democracy voluntarily and willingly. We have been at it selflessly in the last 26 years,” the President said.

Reaffirming his stance, Tinubu said his belief in democratic governance remains firm.
“I am a die-hard democrat and I follow that belief wholeheartedly, committed to a united country, Nigeria. That principle and philosophy will live and die with me,” he stated.

He also stressed that respect for the rule of law and proper democratic conduct must guide political engagement, adding that disputes should be handled through discussion and reasoned arguments.

“The rule of law must prevail before any democrat. The majority will have their say and their way, and the minority will have their say and might not have their way. That is the sweetness and essence of democracy,” Tinubu said.

The President added that he would continue to remain loyal to his political platform while acknowledging the place of other parties within Nigeria’s multi-party system.

“I am a registered voter. Whether I am on the same platform with you or not, I am going to stick to my platform,” he said.

Looking back on his political journey, Tinubu recalled staying in opposition during difficult times without issuing threats, except during the era of military rule.

“When it was against me years past, I toed the line and stayed in opposition without threatening anyone but the military junta,” Tinubu added.

Tinubu ended by urging political leaders to place the nation’s stability first and remain committed to democratic ideals for the country’s growth.
