“I Don’t See How It Is Entirely Good For Nigerians” — Rhodes-Vivour

Former Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has expressed skepticism over the economic benefits of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing visit to the United Kingdom, saying he does not see how the trip is entirely beneficial to ordinary Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour acknowledged the diplomatic significance of international engagements but questioned their direct impact on citizens facing economic hardship.

“However, I don’t see how it is entirely good for the Nigerian people,” he said, suggesting that while such visits may strengthen diplomatic relations, the practical outcomes for everyday Nigerians remain unclear.

His comments come amid public debate over the relevance and economic returns of high-level foreign trips by government officials, particularly at a time when many households are grappling with rising costs of living, unemployment, and inflation.

Analysts say foreign engagements can enhance trade relations, attract investment, and improve bilateral cooperation. However, they also stress that tangible benefits depend on effective follow-up policies, transparency, and implementation at home.

Rhodes-Vivour’s remarks add to ongoing discussions about governance priorities and the need for economic strategies that deliver measurable improvements in jobs, business growth, and overall living standards for Nigerians.
