The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed profound sorrow and condemnation over the deadly suicide bombings that rocked Maiduguri on Monday, leaving at least 23 people dead and 108 others injured.
In a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas described his heart as “heavy” upon learning of the attacks.
“I received with deep pain the tragic news of the bomb blasts in Maiduguri — a city that has already endured more than its fair share of grief.
“The loss of innocent lives and the suffering inflicted on families in this sacred month of Ramadan is both heartbreaking and unacceptable,” he wrote.

The explosions struck busy civilian locations, including the Monday Market, the Post Office area, and the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, occurring around iftar, when Muslims break their daily fast during Ramadan.
Authorities from the Borno State Police Command confirmed that 23 people were killed while 108 others sustained injuries.
The attacks come amid a surge in violence in Borno, including a recent overnight assault on a military outpost, underscoring persistent security challenges despite ongoing military operations in the region.
Earlier, the Nigerian Army had warned of potential coordinated suicide attacks by suspected Boko Haram operatives in Maiduguri, advising residents to steer clear of crowded areas.
