A potentially devastating road accident along the busy Abuja–Nyanya Expressway was brought under control on Wednesday, following a rapid intervention by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other responders.
The incident occurred around the Kugbo axis during peak traffic hours when a fuel tanker reportedly lost control and crashed into multiple vehicles, triggering panic among commuters and causing a heavy traffic gridlock.
In an official update shared via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, NEMA confirmed that no fatalities were recorded.
However, several individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The agency disclosed that its Abuja Operations Office, led by Zakari Abubakar, coordinated the emergency response in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Federal Fire Service.

According to NEMA, the swift and coordinated efforts of the responders not only ensured the rescue of victims but also facilitated the immediate clearance of the accident scene, restoring normal traffic flow along the critical route.
To avert a possible secondary disaster, emergency teams secured the area and carried out precautionary measures, including dampening the affected zone to reduce the risk of a fire outbreak, given the involvement of a fuel tanker.
Authorities have since confirmed that the situation is fully under control, with traffic returning to normal and no further threat to commuters in the area.
