FIFA Fines Israel FA, Mandates Anti‑Racism Measures

FIFA has fined the Israel Football Association (IFA) CHF150,000 and mandated a series of anti-discrimination measures after finding the federation guilty of breaches related to offensive conduct and racist behaviour.

The ruling, announced Thursday, March 20, 2026, followed a complaint by the Palestinian Football Association presented at FIFA’s 74th Congress.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee concluded that the IFA violated Articles 13 and 15 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which cover offensive behaviour and discrimination.

In addition to the fine and formal warning, the IFA must implement a comprehensive prevention plan.

Measures include displaying prominent banners at its next three home matches in FIFA competitions with the message: “Football Unites the World, No to Discrimination.”

FIFA also ordered that one-third of the fine be invested within 60 days into educational campaigns, monitoring systems, and reforms aimed at preventing repeat incidents.

The plan is subject to FIFA approval and is expected to run for at least one season.

While FIFA stressed that its mandate is regulatory, it noted the broader responsibility of football to promote respect, equality, and inclusion.

The IFA has been formally notified and may appeal the decision to the FIFA Appeal Committee.

The case highlights FIFA’s growing focus on enforcing anti-discrimination standards among its member associations.
