Residents of Sokoto State have been urged to stay alert and take personal responsibility for safety, as part of efforts to sustain peace across the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Abdul Usman, made this appeal on Monday during a Sallah homage visit to his hometown in Gwadabawa Local Government Area.
During the visit, he paid courtesy calls on the council chairman and the District Head of Gwadabawa, the Sarkin Gobir, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana.
Addressing community members, Usman emphasised the importance of vigilance and cooperation with security agencies in curbing threats to public safety.
“Security is a shared responsibility. We must all remain alert and promptly report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authorities. This is crucial in preventing threats and maintaining law and order in our communities,” he said.
The retired military officer also reassured residents of the state government’s firm resolve to restore and maintain peace, noting that the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu is actively strengthening the state’s security framework.
“The administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu is fully committed to strengthening the security architecture of Sokoto State,” he said.
“Through enhanced collaboration with security agencies, community engagement, and strategic interventions, we are tackling emerging security challenges head-on.”
Usman, who holds the traditional title of Sadaukin Gwadabawa, further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and youths to align with government efforts by promoting unity and rejecting criminal activities.
“We must foster peaceful coexistence and work together to build a safer society for all,” he added.

As part of his Sallah activities, the security adviser visited the General Hospital in Gwadabawa, where he provided financial support to patients and their families. He described the gesture as a reflection of compassion and community solidarity during festive periods, while offering prayers for the recovery of those receiving treatment.
He also paid a condolence visit to the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Isa Tambagarka, following the death of his sister.
“I pray Almighty Allah grants her eternal rest and gives the family the strength to bear the loss,” he said.
Usman expressed confidence that continued collaboration between citizens and the government would enhance peace, security, and development in Sokoto State.
“With unity and commitment, Sokoto will witness greater peace and progress,” he said.
The visit was attended by Alhaji Aminu Gwadabawa, a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service, alongside Mu’azu Shamaki and Basharu Guyawa.
