US-Iran Clash Deepens as Talks Denied Amid Trump Claims

A growing diplomatic rift has emerged between the United States and Iran following conflicting accounts over whether any negotiations are underway between the two countries, raising fresh uncertainty over tensions in the Middle East.

United States President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that Washington and Tehran had engaged in what he described as “very good and productive conversations” over the past two days.

He said the discussions were aimed at achieving “a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” and added that he had ordered a pause on planned strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure in light of the talks.

Trump’s comments suggested a possible shift toward de-escalation in a long-standing geopolitical standoff that has frequently impacted global security and energy markets.

However, Iranian state media outlet Press TV quickly rejected the claim, citing a senior Iranian security official who denied that any negotiations—direct or indirect—were taking place. The official dismissed the U.S. president’s remarks as unfounded, insisting that no dialogue had been initiated.

According to a report by NDTV, the Iranian official further claimed that Trump had withdrawn a previous offer for talks, attributing the move to Iran’s military posture and increasing economic pressure on the United States and its allies.

“Negotiations are not happening and psychological warfare won’t restore the Strait of Hormuz or stabilise energy markets,” the official was quoted as saying, underscoring Tehran’s firm stance amid rising tensions.

The official also warned that any military action would be met with a “full-scale defence response.”

The contradictory narratives have heightened concerns among international observers, who warn that the lack of clarity could further destabilize an already volatile situation.

The dispute comes at a time when tensions between Washington and Tehran have periodically flared over nuclear concerns, regional influence, and control over key strategic waterways.

Analysts say the conflicting statements may have immediate implications for global energy markets, particularly given the strategic importance of the Middle East in oil and gas supply chains.

The uncertainty has also left diplomats and investors struggling to assess whether a diplomatic breakthrough is genuinely underway or if tensions are poised to escalate further.

As both sides maintain starkly different positions, the world watches closely for any sign of verified dialogue—or further escalation—between two of the most influential actors in the Middle East.
