The Joint Labour Movement in Osun State has called off its planned picketing of commercial bank branches in Osogbo.
The decision came after intervention by the Department of State Services, DSS, which facilitated talks between labour leaders and representatives of the bank.
In a joint statement released after the meeting, the NLC Chairman, Christopher Arapasopo, TUC Chairman, Bimbo Fasasi, and JNC Chairman, Lekan Adediran, confirmed the suspension of the industrial action.
Labour had earlier directed members to mobilise for a peaceful protest scheduled for Tuesday, the 24th of March, 2026, over concerns tied to local government funds.
According to the statement, “the directive followed resolutions reached at meetings of the State Administrative Council and State Executive Council held on 17 March at the Labour House in Osogbo.”
After discussions brokered by the DSS, both parties agreed to halt the planned action.
The statement read, “That the planned UBA picketing of Tuesday, 24th March 2026 be suspended.”
It added that a joint meeting between labour unions and the bank’s representatives would be held.
Both sides are expected to engage in further talks aimed at resolving the dispute within one week, from the 23rd to the 30th of March, 2026.

Labour leaders said the suspension would remain in place throughout this period to allow dialogue to progress.
They also reaffirmed their stance on peaceful engagement. “The struggle continues peacefully, lawfully, intelligently, and firmly,” the statement added, urging members to stay disciplined and focused.
The movement maintained its commitment to protecting democratic values, economic fairness and social development, expressing hope that the talks would lead to a resolution.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State had earlier alerted security agencies ahead of the planned protest.
The party, in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, called for steps to ensure public order is not disrupted in Osogbo, noting that the demonstration was being organised by leaders of the Joint Labour Movement, including officials of the NLC and TUC.
