The Ogun State Government has rejected claims circulating online questioning the evidence against Abass Olalekan, a Local Government Inspector with the National Youth Service Corps in Abeokuta South.
Recall that Olalekan was arraigned on the 23rd of March, 2026, before Magistrate Court 1 in Isabo, Abeokuta, on a two-count charge. He was granted bail, a move the government said has been misread in public discussions.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, the 24th of March, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), said the bail decision was based only on the nature of the charges and not on the strength of the case.
The Attorney-General’s office also stated that it has assumed control of the prosecution after receiving the case file from the State Police Command.
According to the statement, police findings indicate that Olalekan was in a relationship with the deceased, Victoria Olapeju Ariyo, who was said to be pregnant at the time of her death.

Investigators allege that he supported the termination of the pregnancy, suggested a person to carry out the procedure, and provided funds for it. The deceased reportedly died after the procedure.
The government described reports casting doubt on the evidence and alleging missing witnesses as “false and misleading,” noting that the matter is still at an early stage.
It added that questions about evidence would be addressed during trial and warned against speculation that could affect public trust in the judicial process.
The Attorney-General urged the public and the media to allow the court proceedings to continue without interference and to ignore unverified claims about the case.
