FG Sets Final Deadline For Civil Servants’ Verification, Warns Of Payroll Sanctions

The Federal Government has fixed Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as the final deadline for civil servants to complete their verification under the ongoing Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis (PASGA), warning that defaulters risk being removed from the government payroll.

This directive was conveyed in an official memo issued by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, who stressed the mandatory nature of the exercise for all affected workers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

According to the circular, the PASGA initiative comprises two key components—personnel verification and skills assessment—both of which must be completed by every federal civil servant to qualify for certification.

“The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation wishes to remind all Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Offices that the Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis consists of two mandatory components,” the memo stated.

Civil servants who have not completed either or both stages of the process have been urged to do so before the deadline to secure their Certificates of Completion from designated consultants.

These certificates are to be submitted to the respective Directors of Human Resource Management within their MDAs as proof of compliance.

The government warned that failure to meet the deadline would attract administrative sanctions, including possible suspension from salary payments until compliance is achieved.

“All officers who fail to comply shall be liable to appropriate administrative sanctions… which may include suspension from the payroll pending compliance,” the memo added.

Permanent Secretaries and heads of extra-ministerial departments have also been directed to ensure the circular is widely disseminated and strictly adhered to.

The verification exercise forms part of broader reforms introduced by the Federal Government in 2025 to sanitise the civil service system, particularly in eliminating ghost workers and improving workforce efficiency.

Originally scheduled for completion in December 2025, the deadline was extended to allow more workers to participate.

The audit is expected to provide critical data to guide recruitment, training, and policy decisions aimed at strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of the federal civil service.

Officials say the outcome of the PASGA exercise will play a key role in addressing staffing gaps, enhancing productivity, and aligning the workforce with Nigeria’s development agenda.
