Adeleke Sympathises With Osogbo Over Rainstorm Damage

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed sympathy to residents of Osogbo and surrounding communities following a destructive rainstorm that hit parts of the state.

Footage shared on Facebook by Osogbo Updates on Sunday showed residents assessing and salvaging damage caused by the heavy downpour.

According to the report, “Heavy rain caused chaos at Aregbe Junction, right in front of Chicken Republic in Osogbo, Osun State, when a large billboard toppled onto a truck carrying soft drinks.

Residents and commuters were left shocked as the incident disrupted traffic in the area.”

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the event as unfortunate and assured that the government would provide support to those affected.

“On behalf of the government and good people of my state, I sincerely sympathise with the victims of the heavy rainstorms occasioned by the devastating downpour on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Osogbo and its adjoining communities,” he said.

Adeleke added that his administration would coordinate with the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) to address losses suffered by residents.

“I must say that I feel deeply touched and alarmed by the incident and my administration will, no doubt, put in place everything morally and officially possible through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) with a view to offsetting the attendant losses incurred by the victims in Osogbo and other affected communities,” he stated.

The governor also instructed the Ministry of Works to clear the affected roads promptly to prevent further accidents.

“I have also directed the Ministry of Works to quickly swing into action by clearing the motorways to prevent further accidents,” he said.

Linking the rising frequency of such natural events to climate change, Adeleke noted that his administration’s policies are designed to mitigate environmental risks.

He also encouraged residents to engage in proactive measures such as tree planting and warned against indiscriminate tree felling.

The incident coincides with a broader weather forecast for Nigeria.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency had earlier released its 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction, predicting normal to above-normal rainfall in several parts of the country, including the southwest.
